Aboriginal Health
East Metropolitan Health Service (EMHS) is committed to working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to improve access to healthcare. This includes providing culturally safe environments, creating employment opportunities, and building strong, collaborative partnerships.
These efforts aim to help close the gap in health outcomes between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the broader community.
Our Aboriginal Community Health teams focus on improving access to culturally appropriate care for Aboriginal people. These teams operate across the metropolitan region, supporting services in the north, south and east.
All Aboriginal Community Health programs are planned, delivered and evaluated in consultation and collaboration with the Aboriginal community to ensure they meet local needs and priorities.
EMHS also proudly celebrates NAIDOC Week each year, with a range of events held across our entire hospital network to recognise and honour the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
